Check out three emerging technologies that will change and transform the way we live in 2019.
To say that we are living in the future is an understatement. The world we live in now is full of emerging technologies that will define the way we’ll be living in the years to come. It seems like almost everything we saw in movie and cartoons and read in book and comics about the future is happening right now, as you’re reading this article. We still don’t have flying cars like the Jetsons (wouldn’t that be awesome?), but we are much more closer to living in the same world as our favorite family of the future.
By the end of 2018, Forbes Magazine published an article about emerging technologies for 2019 and the list has some pretty amazing items and predictions. From Smart cities to Cybersecurity, 2019 will be a great year to continue down the path to Innovation and Transformation of the world we have (and the one we want to have).

Artificial Intelligence (AI)
This field of study is no stranger to us. Machine learning, augmented reality technologies and human-computer interface are just a few of the accomplishes in this area. Most people deal with some kind of AI technology daily and don’t even realize it. If you have a smartphone, you probably spent a few minutes talking to the virtual assistant to see what it could do and what it would answer. There you go, you have this cutting edge technology in the palm of your hand.
But the future of AI has unlimited possibilities of what can be accomplished by this field of study. Of course there’s a fervorous debate over the implications of the ‘threats’ that robots and machines can think as a human (or even better than a human) and make their own decisions. And here we are again, living in the reality that only existed in movies and books a few decades ago.
But the truth is we need this technology. The amount of data we are producing is increasing daily. But almost 90 percent of this data is unstructured. To even begin to make sense and process this much data, we need a helping hand from our artificially intelligent robot friends.
Cybersecurity (Risk Management)
You know are else grows more and more every year right alongside emerging technologies? Cyber threats. That’s why cybersecurity is so important and one of the most growing areas of technologies with many improvements every year.
Even with these improvements, companies, agencies and organizations keep getting their data stolen and violated. The firm Gemalto estimated that data breaches compromised 4.5 billion records just in the first half of 2018. According to a recent study from the University of Maryland, hackers attack computers every 39 seconds.
We will be facing a new and improved cyber threats in 2019 (hello, automated hackers tools). This is the bitter-sweet reality we live in now. The more connected we get, the more vulnerable we are. That’s when cybersecurity comes into the scene. We need this technologies and their solutions to protect our personal life and our work. We are dealing with serious threats from criminals trying to steal your credit card number from terrorists, malicious individuals, organized crime and more. Cybersecurity is the key for us to be able to take full advantage of these awesome new technologies and this connection we have with the world today without being vulnerable.
Internet of Things (IoT) and Smart Cities
You have probably heard about IoT by now. This emerging technology refers to the general concept of machines, equipment and devices that are controllable via the internet. You can read, locate, turn something on and off using the internet, just to list a few examples. Internet of Things includes cars, wearable technologies and home appliances.
Think about it this way: if a device can be turned on, it can, most likely, be connected to the internet. And because of this, it is possible to quickly share data across various types of devices, which increases the rate of communications and gives us multiple choices of actions.
IoT is a growing emerging technology. Cisco predicts that over 50 billion devices (including smartphones, office equipments and appliances) will have a wireless connection via a network of sensors to the internet by 2020.
Having the objects and devices from your home connected to the internet is one thing. But what about a whole city? The concept of Smarts Cities is based around the idea of creating a public and private infrastructure to conduct activities that protec, secure and benefits the citizens. This concept integrates transportation, energy, water resources and collections, smart-building technologies, communications (nice to meet you, 5-G) and security technologies and services.
This concept might seem too far-fetched, but it’s actually already happening. The combined forces of IoT and Smart Cities are the future we are building today.
