AI imaging software company Pimloc has developed a platform for anonymizing video footage held by organizations seeking to protect the privacy of people whose images are captured in stored video, as regulations like GDPR and California’s Consumer Privacy Act require many public and private sector organizations to do.

Facial biometric data is typically very labor intensive to anonymize manually, requiring teams to scrub footage in a slow process that risks missing a subject. The new Secure Redact platform can help law enforcement agencies, smart city projects and global brands make their stored video footage anonymous in an instant with machine learning, according to the announcement.

Secure Redact is available as a cloud hosted or on-premises solution, with pricing based on usage. The engine has been designed to work with video posing processing challenges, such as from CCTV or vehicle-mounted sources or taken in different weather and lighting conditions. The team behind Secure Redact draws on experience from Hawkeye, Nokia, and Oxford University.

Suspect Technologies, which provides software for facial redaction to police body camera makers, as well as facial recognition software, raised $800,000 in a funding round late last year. A different approach to the same general problem is offered by D-ID, which offers software to block facial recognition with image distortion.
