With UVI’s newly launched Drum Replacer plug-in, music-makers can replace existing percussion tracks with audio samples or virtual instruments, or trigger them in real-time.

This all sounds like familiar territory with other drum replacement tools, but according to UVI, its plug-in is “more accurate and more versatile than other drum replacement tools currently available”, thanks to machine-learning.

Drum Replacer analyses audio signals and “intelligently separates” them into discrete components – using machine learning to create spectral models for each identified component, and triggering samples or virtual instruments appropriately.

Each trigger can host a virtual instrument, or up to eight samples – which could be eight unique ones or one processed eight different ways. Along with that, trigger modes that launch samples either sequentially or at random could open the door to some more creative approaches. The latter, in effect, could be used to vary drum hits; better emulating a live kit.

Additionally, Drum Replacer packs onboard sample editing and mixing capabilities, which – though basic – could be all you need to ensure that samples sound just right when triggered. On top of that, it’s possible to save your favourite presets to be recalled in future.

See UVI’s full overview video for Drum Replacer below.

Drum Replacer comes in VST, AU and AAX formats for Mac and Windows, and is now being offered at an introductory price of $59 – reverting to $99 after 30 June.
