Description
Thank you for viewing my listing! This beauty is from a local estate and I personally do not have a story on her. I will do my best to describe her and mention areas of flaws that I see with the knowledge I have. Please understand that I do not collect these type dolls and this is in fact the first vintage Lenci I've ever had the pleasure of seeing! I may omit something important to you so please feel free to contact me with any questions!
Basic info first.....
Doll is approximately 20" tall. Made of felt, jointed at neck, arms and hips. Face is blushed, and googly eyes are painted. She has raised molding underneath eyebrows. Hair is a natural substance...I believe it's mohair.
Dressed in a gorgeous ensemble. She wears a heavily draped gown of taffeta (or rayon) like material. Dress is trimmed with fabric covered buttons on the bodice and features a large bow at the back waistline. Underneath she wears a petticoat, bloomers and a stiff bustle like garment for adding shape to her skirt!
She has sewn on socks and felt shoes.
Her accessories include a silk(?) purse (with hankie) which is sewn to her hand. The other hand has a portion of the skirt sewn to it for a draped affect. Her hat is adorned with lovely felt flowers as seen!
Now as to condition!
This doll is showing her age. It appears her gown has quite a bit of fading especially to the front. I can see more vibrancy to the back of the dress compared to the front. The multi colored fabric of the dress is still in pretty good condition, I personally couldn't find any holes or tears. I do see an inch long separation on one seam area near the hemline. But this is not a hole persay and could easily be restitched.
The area of damage is mainly the blue pleated trim that compliments the gown so prettily... it has really fallen prey to aging and is missing in many parts or fraying. You may refer to photos to see what I mean here. That same blue material appears to be what her purse was made of and it shows the same signs of disrepair as does the trim.
Her face and body show some areas of surface dirt and I see a few small holes in her felt like the one on her hand. (See photo)
Her hat appears to be fine with the exception of the net veil which is quite torn...I guess. It's hard to determine what it was like originally so this is my assumption! The hat is in place on her head use a hat pin.
Her undergarments are actually in nice condition. I didn't spot any issues with them. I cannot find any tag or maker's label on her but have found reference to her being authentic and from the #250 series issued in the 1940s. A Google search will reveal past auctions with her in this exact ensemble.
I believe this doll even in her current condition still is a true beauty and certainly a rare survivor and therefore I truly wish for her to go to a good home!! Again please feel free to ask any questions you may have. I have another doll from this estate as well as 2 Lenci books that came along with them!
My home is smoke and pet free. And upon checking this doll I find no odors.
Thank you!
