    Description

    DESCRIPTION:
    This auction is for a rare cloth doll in original clothing marked "PAT'D JULY 8, 1901".  Reference tells me Albert Bruckner of New York City manufactured cloth mask faced dolls from 1901-1930.  He was by trade a lithographer, while watching a friend work on a rag doll, he conceived the idea of embossing the features on with a mask.  He patented the idea in 1901 and established a full line of rag dolls using this method.  I have shown an article from my reference book, see last photo.  Some of Bruckner's dolls were sold as part of Horsman's Baby land Rag Doll series. This doll measures 14" tall to the top of the head, has a mask face applied to the all cloth head, the tip of the nose is worn off, age wear throughout, wears original clothing. Doll stand is not included. Offering as is condition shown with no reserve auction. Although very worn this doll would still be a "Prize" for collection or display! Thank you for looking in.
