In a recent LinkedIn post, Andrew Ng has confirmed the news by stating — “One of the fastest-growing AI applications is medicine. So I’m excited to announce that Courses 1 and 2 of deeplearning.ai‘s new AI For Medicine Specialization are now available on Coursera! You’ll learn to diagnose diseases from X-rays and build your prognostic models.”

According to the Coursera website, these AI-based courses are specially designed for medicine specialisation. Students will be able to learn to diagnose diseases from x-rays and 3D MRI brain images and predict patient survival rates more accurately using tree-based models. These courses will also help students to learn how to estimate treatment effects on patients using data from randomised trials, and automate the task of labelling medical datasets using natural language processing. Apart from that some of the skills one can gain from these courses are — model interpretation, image segmentation, natural language extraction, machine learning, time-to-event modelling, deep learning, model evaluation, multi-class classification, model tuning, treatment effect estimation, and machine learning interpretation.

The medicine specialisation course has further been divided into three sub-category courses, i.e. AI for Medical Diagnosis; AI for Medical Prognosis; and AI for Medical Treatment. These three-course specialisations will give students practical experience in applying machine learning to concrete problems in medicine. These courses go beyond the foundations of deep learning to teach you the nuances in applying AI to medical use cases, stated the website.

The courses are also including hands-on projects which will help students earn certifications that can be shared with employers for professional benefits.

deeplearning.ai is AndrewNG’s new venture which has aimed to provide comprehensive AI education beyond borders.

The enrolment for these courses will be for free and starts April 16th, 2020.
