The hype, fear and interest around artificial intelligence right now triggers people to start discussions and ask questions about whether AI will replace people one day or will we be able to take it almost as the same species.

While watching this video I caught myself thinking that the fascination around the solutions and expression that we can observe in the artist’s work makes us feel connected to this art, makes us almost share the ownership and partly be glad that we are the same species with the smart and beautiful person who’s created the dresses.

“It’s all the impossibilities that got me going.”

Iris van Herpen

While the evolution of the AI is being trusted by the need to innovate, to do more, to crash boundaries, there is still something in our nature that needs limitations and fewer possibilities for human being to overcome them and create solutions to existing challenges. The seemingly happiest people are the ones that lived through horrible events, often the most successful ones started with the worst preconditions. Easy is not that valuable. Simple, even though requires effort to become such, is perceived as not sophisticated enough.

Seeing these dresses being created by human brings me much more joy than seeing something very precise and organically shaped with a functional purpose being created by the technology.

And it’s so interesting to observe. Natural approach would probably be to strive for merging and collaboration rather than competition, but we all know that’s not how it sometimes works with people.
