Doha: Artificial Intelligence (AI) is witnessing rapid growth in Qatar and most of the ministries and other organisations are planning to expand it in several areas. As of now, Qatar is in the growing stage of this segment and various funding opportunities are available here which is a positive step said an expert during an online event.
Addressing the webinar ‘Industrial Applications of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning’ organised by Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC), Renjith Paulose, Chief AI Data Scientist at Excelledia, a technology consulting company said, AI can be used for manual processes, facial recognition, video analytics, text analysis, robotics etc. There is huge potential of bringing AI technology into sports sector to help in an error-free smart decision making.
The session focused on the industrial enterprises that are planning to implement AI and Machine Learning for their performance improvement and enterprises that have started using AI in their firm. It shed light on how enterprises can apply AI to drive greater operational agility and performance across the set of use cases and enabled the industrial enterprises to improve operational and business performance, while simultaneously increasing agility and innovation. It also discussed the challenges and impediments organizations are facing.
The speaker highlighted the most common industrial applications of artificial intelligence and machine learning which can help any organisations for their digital transformation journey. He said, “AI has started impacting our everyday lives and we are experiencing it in one or the other way. AI is the simulation of human intelligence in machines that are programmed to think like humans and mimic their actions.
Machine learning is the backbone of AI that provides systems the ability to automatically learn and improve from experience without being explicitly programmed which focuses on the development of computer programs that can access data and use it to learn for themselves.”
“Data Science is to generate meaningful information, data and insights based on large amounts of complex data or big data which combines data from multiple sources of business to interpret data for decision making process. It is needed to understand the business problem whether it is to automate some process in an organization, to predict or forecast sales for the organization.
He said, “Once the business problem is defined, the data available is looked into, in terms of what type of data and how much data is available and its location. When the data is identified the next step is data preparation which is time consuming process where data is transformed and arranged to be analyzed. Once the data is collected and processed, the right algorithm is chosen to build the machine learning model and evaluated to measure the accuracy and finally the deployment is done based on technology infrastructure which is implemented in the client environment.”
He added, AI helps to automate the processes, to capture and extract the data, so rather than looking at the organizations performance and compliance level the AI algorithm can take the data from the organizations and do automatically the compliance check based on algorithms.
Renjith also discussed the utilization of industrial applications of AI in multiple sectors such as finance, retail, healthcare, manufacturing, education, automobile, telecom, and government. In banking and finance sector, he said, now a days there are a lot of automations happening like AI-based loan approval decision system that is by looking at the applicants’ financial data and by combining several other data’s available, the algorithm is taking the decision weather to approve or reject the loan. It is important for banks and financial institutions to detect the fraud transactions or fraud loan applicant within the banking network.
In retail, AI technology helps organizations to understand the market and take business decisions accordingly, in healthcare AI is utilized for patient care and for recommendation of treatment which helps doctors to take decisions, in manufacturing sector as most of the machines are Internet of Things (IoT) enabled and the sensors are connected to the machines and are monitoring the manufacturing process AI helps to predict machine failures an in automation, AI is used for navigating and driver assistance.
